The Storybook Curriculum
At Storybook, we are often asked how the Montessori Approach fits in with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. The simple answer is that the two are complementary. Ofsted registered, we follow the EYFS curriculum, but do so using a Montessori approach to learning.
Where the Montessori Approach differs in teaching to traditional methods of pre-school education is in its emphasis on learning at an individual child’s pace. Engagement in the classroom is reflected by this approach, allowing children to develop in their own time while still fulfilling the requisite skills demanded by the EYFS curriculum.
This approach is recognised as bringing social and cognitive benefits to children. As well as, in the case of pre-school, producing grounded and rounded individuals who are well prepared for progressing to primary school education.
The EYFS curriculum focuses on literacy, maths, communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development and understanding of the world.
